Devon Kershaw A 'Friends Of Lake Laurentian' Patron

By Angela Gemmill

Devon Kershaw grew up using the Lake Laurentian Conservation Area in Sudbury.

The local Olympic cross-country skier says he used the trails and natural surroundings for all types of sports and recreation, in every season.

He says he spent so much time there, skiing at the conservation area in the winter.

In the summer he says he would run and cycle on the trails.

Kershaw says he has fond memories of attending Camp Bitobig, a summer day camp within the conservation area.

He recently had a chance to speak with current campers and they compared camp experiences.

Kershaw was thrilled at how excited they were with all the activities.

The 29-year-old? was named a ?Friends of Lake Laurentian? Patron last October, but this was his first opportunity to accept the honour in person.

The Friends group started the Patron initiative to help raise the profile of the conservation area and chose a small group of patrons who are all long time users, supporters and advocates for the local natural habitat.
