President Dos Santos Inaugurates Flag-Monument

Luanda ? The Angolan President, Jos? Eduardo dos Santos, unveiled on Thursday the Flag-Monument in the national Military History Museum, former S. Miguel Fortress in Luanda.

The ceremony happened under the celebrations of 11th anniversary of the Peace and National Reconciliation Day, being marked on 4 April.

It is a homage paid to the heroes of the motherland and everyone that were engaged in the achievement of the national independence, peace, progress and development of Angola.

The work is comprised by a flagpole of 75 metres and 25 tones of weight, under the basis of 1.5 diameter metres, constituted by about 200 cubic metres of armed concrete, while on the 30-centimetre top side is formed by a light of aeronautics sign.

On 4 April in 2002, it was signed the Complementary Memorandum of Understanding to Lusaka Protocol between the Angolan government and UNITA, act that changed the course of the history of the Republic of Angola, because it symbolized the end of protracted war, whose consequences are visible through thousands of displaced people, refugees, handicapped men and orphans.

The day was established national bank holiday and it is a reference among the Angolans.
